Copper Corridor Scenic Road on State Route 77 is a 32.5-mile drive from just east of Globe south to Winkelman, Arizona. It's the longer of two highway segments making up the Copper Corridor Scenic Road between Ray and Saddlebrooke. About 8.4 miles in, the route crests El Capitan Pass at 4,983 feet, where an overlook with picnic tables gives a wide view back over the desert hills. From there the road descends toward the Gila River, and by around mile 27 the drive picks up a green ribbon of cottonwoods and thick riparian canopy following the river, framed by saguaro-studded canyon walls on either side. The mining town of Globe anchors the northern end, with Winkelman and its junction with SR 177 marking the southern terminus. It's a working landscape as much as a scenic one — active mining history runs through the whole corridor — but the pass overlook and the river-bottom stretch near the end are the drive's clear highlights.
