State Route 67 is the only paved road to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, running about 43 miles south from Jacob Lake across the high, forested Kaibab Plateau. It passes through dense ponderosa pine and spruce-fir forest broken by long grassy meadows where mule deer and the white-tailed Kaibab squirrel are common. Because of deep snow above 8,000 feet, the road and the North Rim close through the winter.
