Marble Canyon Loop describes the scenic drive around Marble Canyon in northern Arizona, built primarily around US Highway 89A between Bitter Springs and Jacob Lake. The highway drops from roughly 8,000 feet in the Kaibab National Forest down to about 3,500 feet at the Colorado River, following the base of the towering Vermilion Cliffs for much of the way. Lees Ferry, reached via a short spur, is the only place in hundreds of miles where a road reaches the Colorado River from both the north and south sides of the Grand Canyon, making it a launch point for river trips and a historic crossing in its own right. Just north of the river, the 1929 Navajo Bridge, an open-spandrel steel arch spanning 834 feet, 467 feet above the canyon floor, offers some of the drive's best views before a modern 1995 replacement took over vehicle traffic. Side roads like the unpaved House Rock Valley Road extend the loop into more remote country but can become impassable after rain, so a full tank and dry weather out of Page or Jacob Lake are worth planning around.
