State Route 89A descends from the high pine forests near Flagstaff through Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona, dropping off the Mogollon Rim by a set of tight switchbacks with a famous overlook at the top. The canyon below is green and shaded, with Oak Creek running past the natural waterslide at Slide Rock State Park. The walls shift from gray basalt to glowing red sandstone as the road nears Sedona.
