State Route 70 follows the North Fork of the Feather River through a steep, rugged canyon in the northern Sierra, sharing the gorge with the famous Western Pacific railroad line and its spectacular bridges and tunnels. Waterfalls drop into the river beside the road, and the canyon walls climb steeply on both sides. It is a quieter alternative to the busier Sierra passes to the south.
