Ramona Expressway is a commuter corridor in Riverside County, California, currently being widened as part of the region's larger Mid County Parkway project. That planned 16-mile corridor links State Route 79 in the Hemet Valley to Interstate 215 in Perris. Unlike many roads carrying a scenic designation, this stretch of expressway is best known today for heavy commuter traffic and a high rate of vehicle collisions, which helped drive the current construction project: an 8.6-mile segment between Warren Road and just east of Rider Street is being widened to add a second travel lane in each direction, along with a raised median, upgraded traffic signals, a new bridge over the San Jacinto River, and a planned wildlife crossing. The project traces back to a 2009 environmental review that narrowed an earlier, larger Mid County Parkway proposal down to this segment between Interstate 215 and Route 79. Construction on this phase began in early 2026 and is expected to take about two years, meaning travelers should expect an active work zone rather than a leisurely scenic drive for the foreseeable future.
