Shasta Dam Boulevard, California Route 151, is a State Scenic Highway curving along a ridge slope between Shasta Dam and Interstate 5 near Shasta Lake City. The officially designated scenic segment runs from the dam to Lake Boulevard, taking in what locals call the "Three Shastas": Shasta Dam itself, the blue water of Shasta Lake, and, on clear days, the snow-capped summit of Mount Shasta rising in the distance. Shasta Dam holds the record for the world's highest overflow spillway, and the reservoir it creates, Shasta Lake, is California's largest at roughly 30,000 surface acres with 370 miles of shoreline, giving the boulevard a wide, open view over water for much of its short run. Fishing is the main draw for many visitors, with Shasta Lake supporting a broad range of species along its extensive shoreline. Though brief, the drive packs in one of Northern California's signature big-engineering-meets-big-scenery views, pairing a massive concrete dam with a genuinely striking mountain backdrop in a single short stretch of highway.
