State Scenic Highway 266 crosses remote Fish Lake Valley, a basin straddling the California-Nevada border east of the White Mountains. It's eligible for California's scenic highway program but has not been officially designated by Caltrans. The two-lane road runs flat across the valley floor and connects to the rest of California's highway network at only one point, its junction with State Route 168 at the tiny community of Oasis, making it among the most isolated state highways in California. Just to the west over SR 168's Westgard Pass lie Deep Springs Valley, home to Deep Springs College, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, though those landmarks sit on SR 168 rather than SR 266 itself.
