State Scenic Highway 330 330

State Scenic Highway 330 climbs City Creek Canyon from San Bernardino to Running Springs, an alternate route into the mountains above. The highway begins at Highway 210 in San Bernardino and runs northeasterly out of the San Bernardino Valley into the San Bernardino National Forest, ending at Highway 18 in Running Springs, where it meets the Rim of the World Highway. Despite its proximity and frequent use as a way up to Big Bear, City Creek Canyon Road is not itself part of the official Rim of the World National Forest Scenic Byway, which instead follows Highways 138, 18, and 38; Highway 330 functions as a separate, unofficial access route rather than a piece of that designated byway. Built as a toll road in the early 20th century alongside other early mountain routes through Cajon Pass and Mill Creek Canyon, the highway is eligible for California's State Scenic Highway System but has not received formal designation. Steep switchbacks and canyon walls make it a popular, if demanding, shortcut for mountain-bound traffic.
