Connecticut State Route 169 Scenic Byway 169

California State Route 169 is a two-part road along the Klamath River in Del Norte and Humboldt counties, split by an unconstructed gap through the Yurok Indian Reservation. The western segment runs from US Highway 101 near Klamath southeast to Klamath Glen, while the eastern segment picks up at Wautec Village and follows the river's north bank through Pecwan and Martins Ferry, crossing the Martins Ferry Bridge before winding through dense, mountainous forest to its end near Weitchpec at State Route 96. Both drivable segments trace the federally designated Wild and Scenic Klamath River, but river miles 8 through 23 between them were never built, a roughly 15-mile stretch reachable only by boat and unlikely to ever see a road given the steep terrain and river proximity. The route dates to 1919, when the state legislature designated it as Legislative Route 46, intended to parallel the Klamath all the way to US 99 near Yreka; construction ran through the 1920s, but December 1964's catastrophic Northwest California floods effectively ended any further progress, leaving the route permanently split when it was renumbered State Route 169 in 1964.
