Halifax Heritage Byway threads three loops through the Daytona Beach area of Volusia County, covering 35 miles along the Halifax River. The In-Town, Riverside, and Oceanside loops carry travelers through Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Daytona Beach Shores, Ponce Inlet, and the community of Wilbur-by-the-Sea. Together they tell nearly 300 years of regional history, from early pioneer settlement through the Halifax River area's 1920s land-boom development. The Oceanside loop in particular traces the corridor's identity as the self-proclaimed birthplace of speed, where hard-packed sand beaches hosted early automobile racing before the sport moved inland, alongside the broad public beaches that still draw vacationers today.
