River of Lakes Heritage Corridor spans 156 miles of interconnected roads along the St. Johns River in Volusia and Seminole counties. It carries a National Scenic Byway designation. The name translates the Timucua word Welaka, what the region's original inhabitants called the St. Johns, which was itself named an American Heritage River in 1998 for its central role in Central Florida's history. Routes including US 17, State Road 40, State Road 415, and several county roads link the towns of Seville, DeLand, Sanford, DeBary, Osteen, and Enterprise, roughly 50 miles north of Orlando and 30 miles west of Daytona Beach. The corridor mixes river heritage, historic riverfront towns, and the natural Florida landscape the St. Johns has shaped for centuries.
