Suncoast Scenic Parkway follows State Road 589, a four-lane, limited-access toll road linking Hillsborough, Pasco, and Hernando counties just north of Tampa. Run by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, the parkway stretches from Citrus Park to Sugar Mill Woods through fast-growing suburban and rural land on Tampa Bay's north side. Unlike most of the byways in this program, its scenic character comes from deliberate highway design rather than adjacent natural or historic landmarks: consistent landscaping, generous medians, and limited commercial access were built in from the start to keep the corridor visually coherent as development fills in around it. It remains a practical commuter route as much as a scenic one.
