The Appalachian Foothills Parkway is a Georgia scenic drive through the state's northwestern corner, starting in LaFayette and following GA 136 west toward Villanow. The route winds through rolling hills, canyon country, and forest at the southern edge of the Appalachians, close enough to the Tennessee line that many of its best-known stops, Cloudland Canyon State Park, Lula Lake Land Trust, Rock City, and Ruby Falls, straddle the Georgia-Tennessee border region around Lookout Mountain. Cloudland Canyon itself is the centerpiece, with the West Rim Loop and Sitton's Gulch trails leading hikers past waterfalls and sandstone bluffs cut by Sitton's Gulch Creek. The drive threads through small northwest Georgia towns before climbing into more dramatic terrain near the state line. Compared to Georgia's flatter Piedmont byways farther south and east, this route stands out for its canyon scenery and proximity to the Chattanooga metro area's tourist attractions just across the border.
