The Cohutta-Chattahoochee Scenic Byway is a 54-mile Georgia scenic byway through Whitfield and Murray counties, around the cities of Dalton and Chatsworth. Following State Routes 2 and 52 and US 41, the two-lane route passes the historic Prater's Mill, built in 1855 and still hosting community events, then runs by pastureland and the edge of Fort Mountain State Park before climbing into the Chattahoochee National Forest, where State Route 52 ends at a sweeping mountaintop overlook. Along the way the byway skirts the Cohutta Mountains and touches on both Civil War history and Dalton's identity as the self-proclaimed Apple Capital of Georgia, with spur roads leading to the Cohutta Fish Hatchery and a Forest Service campground on Holly Creek. Fort Mountain itself adds an archaeological layer, with a stone wall of disputed origin running along its summit. It's one of the more mountainous scenic drives in northwest Georgia, ending literally at a mountaintop view.
