State Route 47 loops off the highway between Ashton and Island Park to reach Upper and Lower Mesa Falls, the last major undammed waterfalls on the Henrys Fork of the Snake River. The Upper Falls drops nearly 115 feet in a broad curtain that throws spray over a historic boardwalk and overlook. The byway runs through lodgepole pine forest on the western edge of the greater Yellowstone country.
