Pleasant Overview Loop is a three-mile gravel detour off the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway in Iowa's Fremont County. It's the southernmost of the byway's sixteen excursion loops before the route crosses into Missouri. Starting on County Road J34/Knox Road, the loop runs to CR L44/Bluff Road, jogs over on 222nd Street, and returns north on 270th Avenue, a short, farmland-framed detour near the towns of Riverton and Sidney. Sidney is home to Iowa's largest continuous outdoor rodeo each July, while the Riverton Wildlife Area draws birders to wetlands along the Nishnabotna River. The loop doesn't have a single marquee overlook the way some northern loops do; its appeal is the quieter, close-to-the-border farm country between the Loess Hills' bluffs and the Missouri state line, a fitting last stop for travelers finishing the byway's full run from Sioux City south.
