This byway crosses the high plains of far western Kansas, where the flat tableland breaks into surprising scenery. Its highlight is Monument Rocks, a row of chalk pyramids and arches rising from the prairie — the first National Natural Landmark in the country and a remnant of an ancient inland sea. Lake Scott State Park and frontier history round out the route.
