The Duncan Hines Scenic Road is an 80-mile driving loop through Warren and Edmonson counties in southwestern Kentucky, beginning and ending in Bowling Green. The route is named for Duncan Hines, the traveling salesman turned restaurant critic and food-brand namesake who grew up on his grandfather's farm near Bowling Green, and it starts at a historical marker outside the 1940 building he built as his home and office on US 31W. From there the loop winds through rolling farmland dotted with grazing cattle and roadside stands selling seasonal produce, flowers, and crafts, passing through the small town of Smith's Grove before reaching Mammoth Cave National Park, where the route includes a ferry crossing of the Green River. Stately old homes and long pastoral vistas fill out the rest of the drive. It's a full day's outing for those wanting to combine Mammoth Cave with a leisurely tour of Kentucky farm country.
