Zilpo Road is a National Forest Scenic Byway in eastern Kentucky's Daniel Boone National Forest, a gently curving nine-mile drive to the shore of Cave Run Lake. Starting south of Salt Lick off Kentucky Route 211, the paved, two-lane road, designated Forest Service Road 918, winds through eastern hardwood forest with scenic overlooks and regular wildlife sightings before ending at the Zilpo Recreation Area on the lake's western shore. Cave Run Lake itself is a 7,390-acre reservoir built by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Licking River, popular for fishing, particularly for muskellunge, and boating, with the 355-acre Zilpo Recreation Area offering wooded campsites at the byway's end. The drive takes about 20 minutes each way and is typically open year-round, making it an easy add-on for anyone camping or fishing at Cave Run Lake rather than a standalone destination.
