Flyway Byway loops roughly 43 miles through Jefferson Davis Parish's rice fields and crawfish farms in southwest Louisiana. It follows US 90 and connecting state highways. The drive starts at the Louisiana Oil & Gas Park near Interstate 10, winds through Jennings and Welsh, and reaches the Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, one of several individually recognized birding hotspots along a route that supports some 160 bird species. Lake Arthur, a 1,500-acre freshwater lake, anchors the town of the same name with more prime birdwatching. In Lacassine, Bayou Rum, America's largest privately owned rum distillery, offers tours and tastings made from local sugarcane, a sweet counterpoint to the surrounding rice and crawfish farms.
