Myths and Legends Byway runs 181 miles through western Louisiana, strung together around the region's tall tales, true stories, and local legends. It begins at Burr Ferry, where Louisiana Highways 8 and 111 meet, and passes through Merryville before reaching DeRidder, home to the Beauregard Parish Museum's collection of more than 3,000 dolls and a Gothic Revival former jail known locally as the Hanging Jail. Sugartown offers a one-mile forest walk through its old town cemetery, while Leesville contributes the historic Wingate House. Between these stops the byway crosses the piney, sparsely populated stretch of western Louisiana that gave rise to its folklore in the first place.
