Southern Swamp Byway runs about 17 miles along the I-55/US 51 frontage road between Sorrento and LaPlace in southeast Louisiana. The drive starts at Sorrento, home to the Ascension Parish Visitors Center, and ends where it meets Interstate 10 in LaPlace. Along the way it skirts the bayous, marshes, and wetlands typical of this stretch of the Mississippi River's river parishes, with small towns offering local wildlife, history, and food between the two endpoints. It's a short, easy detour off the interstate rather than a full day's drive, best paired with stops in the larger river-parish towns nearby.
