Tunica Trace Scenic Byway follows Louisiana Highway 66 for 20 miles through the Tunica Hills of West Feliciana Parish. The route runs from Angola north to St. Francisville, passing the small communities of Tunica, Retreat, Weyanoke, and Turnbull along thickly wooded, steep terrain unusual for this part of the state. Its name and path come from an ancient portage trail used by the Tunica people to move between waterways long before European settlement, later adopted by settlers and eventually paved as today's highway. The dense hardwood forest and ravines along the drive are considered some of the most rugged, least developed landscape left in the Louisiana Delta region.
