Wetlands Cultural Trail follows Louisiana Highways 56 and 57 south from Houma through Terrebonne Parish's bayou country. This Bayou Terrebonne segment of the route winds through small towns and villages where shrimping, trapping, and farming have sustained families for generations, ending where the bayou meets the Gulf of Mexico. The drive is as much about a living way of life as scenery: working shrimp boats, trap lines, and fishing camps line the bayou for much of the route, largely unchanged in character even as the surrounding wetlands have shrunk over the past century.
