The Million Dollar View Scenic Byway covers 7.9 miles of US Route 1 between Danforth and Orient in southeastern Aroostook County, near the New Brunswick border. A Maine state scenic byway, the road offers sweeping views of the Chiputneticook chain of lakes — East Grand, Brackett, and Deering — along with rolling hayfields, Mount Katahdin in the distance, and the hills of New Brunswick across the border, all visible from marked scenic turnouts along the route. Danforth, a former lumber town in the Baskahegan River Valley, anchors the byway's southern end, while nearby Weston preserves the site of a historic portage once used by Native peoples and early settlers to connect Baskahegan Stream to Butterfield Landing on East Grand Lake. Bears, deer, eagles, loons, and moose are all regularly spotted from the road, and the well-stocked lakes draw anglers to a stretch of highway that, true to its name, delivers an outsized view for its modest length.
