The Blackstone Canal Heritage Highway follows Massachusetts Route 122 through the mill villages of Blackstone, Millville, and Uxbridge in the southern Blackstone Valley. It's a Massachusetts state scenic byway that traces the towpath of the historic Blackstone Canal along the way. The road runs through the heart of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, which follows the Industrial Revolution's spread from the Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, north into Massachusetts. The Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park in Uxbridge anchors the drive, preserving roughly 1,000 acres along the old canal towpath where visitors can walk, picnic, fish, or canoe starting from the River Bend Farm Visitor Center. Brick mill buildings and 19th-century village centers along the route trace the same corridor the canal itself once used to move goods between Worcester and Providence before the railroad made it obsolete.
