This Mississippi byway winds 13.8 miles through Lee and Prentiss counties, linking the Brice's Crossroads battlefield to Chief Tishomingo's homesite. It begins at the Brice's Crossroads Visitor and Interpretive Center, opened in 1998 to display artifacts from the June 1864 battle where Confederate cavalry under Nathan Bedford Forrest routed a much larger Union force. From there the route follows Grisham Street, Mississippi Highway 370, and a string of county roads past the homesite of Chief Tishomingo, the most revered leader in Chickasaw history, roughly two miles southwest of the battlefield. Along the way, small historic cemeteries record layers of Chickasaw, African American, and Civil War-era settlement rarely found together in one short corridor. Designated by the Mississippi Department of Transportation in 2011, the byway is less a scenic drive in the postcard sense than a compact, deliberately curated route through overlapping chapters of northeast Mississippi history.
