US-89 crosses the Little Belt Mountains of central Montana over Kings Hill Pass at about 7,400 feet, through the Lewis and Clark National Forest. The route runs through lodgepole and spruce forest with access to the Showdown ski area and the small resort of Sluice Boxes country. It is a quiet mountain crossing between the plains and the upper Missouri.
