The Lakes Region Tour circles 111 miles around Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire's largest lake, threading 13 communities including Alton, Wolfeboro, Meredith, Laconia, and Moultonborough. Starting in Alton, the route follows NH 11 north through Alton Bay to Gilford, where the western shoreline opens onto views of both the lake and the Ossipee Mountain Range beyond it. Along the full loop, travelers can hike a mountain trail, browse small-town shops, tour a local history museum, or cruise the lake itself aboard the MS Mount Washington, a working excursion ship. Weirs Beach, with its boardwalk amusements, arcades, and shops, is one of New Hampshire's most popular family resort destinations and stays busy through the summer season. Because the tour circumnavigates the entire lake rather than following a single shoreline, it works equally well as a half-day loop or as a base for exploring individual lakeside towns at a slower pace.
