The Moose Path Trail runs 98 miles through New Hampshire's Great North Woods, from Berlin north through Gorham, Milan, and the Umbagog Wildlife Refuge. It continues on NH 26, NH 145, and US 3 to the Connecticut Lakes near the Canadian border. Despite its scenic reputation, it's a New Hampshire state byway rather than one of the state's three federally designated National Scenic Byways. The route runs through the densest concentration of moose habitat in the state, and sightings of moose, deer, and other wildlife are common from the road itself. Pontook Reservoir, along the Androscoggin River, draws canoeists, kayakers, and rafters to its Class III rapids, one of the river's most challenging stretches, while Dixville Notch State Park is considered the single best spot on the route to see a moose, alongside camping, fishing, hiking, and waterfalls.
