This toll road climbs 7.6 miles to the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast and home to some of the world's worst recorded weather, including a long-standing surface wind record of 231 mph. The road ascends through forest into bare alpine tundra above the tree line, where conditions can turn arctic in any season. The famous "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" bumper sticker is the reward at the top.
