The Presidential Range Tour runs 115 miles along US 2 and US 302 through northern New Hampshire. It keeps the Presidential Range, the highest peaks in the White Mountains including Mount Washington, in view for nearly the entire drive. Travelers can pick up the route from Vermont and Lancaster heading east on US 2, from Maine heading west along the scenic Androscoggin River, or from Littleton heading east on US 302, with the Presidentials looming closer at nearly every curve. Pinkham Notch, a high mountain pass, adds another dramatic overlook, and the range's foothills cradle small New England villages along with the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area. On a clear day, drivers can spot steam rising from the Mount Washington Cog Railway as it climbs the mountain's western slope. This is a New Hampshire State Scenic Byway rather than one of the state's federally designated routes.
