The Woodland Heritage Trail circles 65 miles around the northernmost section of White Mountain National Forest. It traces New Hampshire's logging and paper-mill heritage along US 2, US 3, NH 110, and NH 16. From Lancaster, the route follows US 2 past Santa's Village theme park and along the northern edge of the national forest, with white birch and maple lining the road against the backdrop of the Presidential Range, before continuing through country shaped by generations of timber and paper mills and looping back to Gorham along the Androscoggin River. The Northern Forest Heritage Park in Berlin anchors the byway's cultural focus, with a museum, a recreated logging camp, and a working blacksmith shop that document the industry that built this corner of the state. Beyond the industrial history, the surrounding national forest offers fishing, boating, hiking, and camping along nearly the entire loop.
