The Bayshore Heritage Byway runs about 122 miles along New Jersey's Delaware Bay shore, from Mannington Township near the Delaware state line south to Cape May at the state's southern tip. Connecting spurs to parks, beaches, and lighthouses stretch the total to 142 miles. A National Scenic Byway, the route skims the shoreline before dipping inland across rivers, tributaries, and farmland, linking historic districts in 11 communities including Salem City, Bridgeton, Greenwich, Cold Spring, and Cape May itself. The Delaware Bay hosts the largest population of spawning horseshoe crabs anywhere in the world each spring, drawing migratory shorebirds by the tens of thousands to the marshes and dunes along the route. Fort Mott State Park and the East Point Lighthouse anchor two of the byway's best-known stops, and the region's deep maritime heritage still shapes the seafood-forward dining found in towns along the way.
