This byway follows the Delaware River along the western edge of New Jersey, past river towns, an old canal towpath, and the wooded hills above the water. It runs through the artsy riverfront towns of Lambertville and Stockton and near Washington Crossing, where the Continental Army famously crossed the icy Delaware in December 1776. The river, canal, and historic villages set the tone.
