This byway runs atop the Palisades, the sheer line of dark cliffs that rises hundreds of feet above the Hudson River across from New York City. Protected as the Palisades Interstate Park since the early 1900s, the route offers overlooks of the river, the George Washington Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline. Wooded paths drop from the cliff top down to the riverbank below.
