This roughly 84-mile loop circles Wheeler Peak — at 13,161 feet New Mexico's highest mountain — through Taos, the ski town of Red River, Eagle Nest, and Angel Fire. It blends high desert, alpine forest, and the artist culture of Taos with the old mining heritage of the Moreno Valley. Aspen turn the surrounding Sangre de Cristos gold each autumn.
