The High Road climbs through the mountains between Santa Fe and Taos, linking centuries-old Hispano villages like Chimayó, Truchas, and Las Trampas on a route far more scenic than the river road below. It passes the adobe Santuario de Chimayó, a pilgrimage church famous for its "holy dirt," and a string of weaving studios and woodcarvers' galleries. Piñon-dotted hills give way to high mountain villages and old mission churches.
