Blue Ridge Road runs 19.2 miles through Essex County in the Adirondacks, connecting North Hudson to Newcomb along the southern edge of the High Peaks region. Officially designated the Blue Ridge Road Scenic Byway by the New York State DOT, the route carries three different road numbers along its length — County Route 84 near Newcomb, State Route 910K near I-87, and County Route 2 farther east — as it cuts through the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest with few signs of civilization the entire way. The road takes its name from nearby Blue Ridge Falls, a roadside cascade with marked trails and parking that draws hikers along the drive. Near its western end, the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb offers exhibits, trail maps, and guidebooks covering the surrounding Adirondack Park. Light traffic and a well-maintained surface make this one of the quieter, more contemplative drives in the Adirondacks, better suited to slow exploration than a quick pass-through.
