This byway follows Route 28 into the heart of the Catskill Mountains, the rounded peaks and deep cloves that inspired the Hudson River School painters and Washington Irving's "Rip Van Winkle." It passes the Ashokan Reservoir with its mountain backdrop, trailheads into the Catskill Forest Preserve, and old resort towns. Hardwood forest gives a brilliant fall display.
