Great Lakes Seaway Trail - New York

Great Lakes Seaway Trail is a 518-mile National Scenic Byway tracing New York's Great Lakes shoreline from Lake Erie to the St. Lawrence River. Most of the route, 454 of its 518 miles, runs through New York, picking up at the Pennsylvania line in rural Erie County and following the water the entire way: along Lake Erie, up the Niagara River past Niagara Falls, along the southern shore of Lake Ontario, and finally down the St. Lawrence River to the Seaway International Bridge near Massena. Major cities along the way include Buffalo, Rochester, Oswego, and Ogdensburg, interspersed with lighthouses, historic forts, and small harbor towns that have depended on Great Lakes shipping for two centuries. As one of the longest National Scenic Byways in the country, it links four distinct bodies of water and a wide range of landscapes, from Niagara's roar to the quiet, island-studded stretch of the upper St. Lawrence. Cyclists and road-trippers alike use it as a multi-day route rather than a single afternoon drive.
