New York Route 73 runs into the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks, the cluster of the state's tallest mountains, toward the Olympic village of Lake Placid. It passes the Cascade Lakes pinched between cliffs, popular trailheads for the 46 High Peaks, and the ski-jump towers left from two Winter Olympics. The route is the main approach to the wildest mountain country in the East.
