This byway winds beneath the white quartzite cliffs of the Shawangunk Mountains — the "Gunks" — one of the premier rock-climbing destinations in the country, about 90 minutes from New York City. It gives access to Minnewaska State Park Preserve, the Mohonk Mountain House, and sky-blue cliff-rimmed lakes. Hawk migrations and sweeping ridge views draw visitors year-round.
