New York Route 97 follows the Upper Delaware River, a federally protected wild and scenic river along the New York–Pennsylvania border. It crosses the Roebling Aqueduct, the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the country, built by the engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge, and rounds the dramatic cliff-top Hawk's Nest curves above the river. Eagles, canoeists, and forested river bends define the drive.
