Crowders Mountain Drive is an 8-mile North Carolina scenic byway through Crowders Mountain State Park, winding around the base of Crowders and Kings Mountains in Gaston and Cleveland counties. The route starts in the small community of Mountain View on Route 1125, passing directly through the state park before the road changes designations, becoming Route 1104 near Pinnacle Road and Route 2292 at Montonia Road, and finally following Route 161 north to its end at Interstate 85. Among the park's peaks, the Pinnacle stands out as a monadnock, an isolated mass of resistant rock left standing after the softer surrounding land eroded away over millions of years. The state park itself is one of the region's best-known spots for rock climbing, with sheer quartzite cliffs drawing climbers alongside hikers using the park's network of mountain trails. Short and winding, the byway functions as much as a park access road as a standalone scenic drive, best experienced by stopping to hike or climb rather than just passing through.
