Jefferson County Scenic Byway runs 15 miles along State Route 150 from Rayland to US 250 in eastern Ohio, with a southern spur on State Route 647 running from Mt. Pleasant to the Belmont County line. The byway's chief draw is history rather than scenery alone: a number of homes along the route are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and several are tied to the Underground Railroad, part of the dense network of safe houses that once threaded through Ohio's river counties. The drive crosses the rolling hill country typical of the upper Ohio River valley, with the Rayland-to-Mt. Pleasant stretch offering the most concentrated run of historic architecture. It pairs naturally with a stop in Mt. Pleasant, once a center of Ohio Quaker and abolitionist activity.
