Lower Valley Pike Scenic Byway follows 11 miles of Clark County Road 316 south of Springfield, Ohio, tracing the Mad River. Named Ohio's 18th State Scenic Byway in 2004, the route passes George Rogers Clark Park, 250 acres of meadows, shade trees, and a small lake with a waterfall, and leads to Medway, home to some of the state's oldest standing buildings. Other stops include the historic Hertzler House and the 167-acre Estelle Wenrick Wetlands Preserve. The byway also reaches the meadowland site of the Battle of Piqua, fought on August 8, 1780, when Kentucky militia under George Rogers Clark attacked a Shawnee settlement, one of the largest engagements of the Revolutionary War fought west of the Appalachians.
