Maumee Valley Scenic Byway runs nearly 90 miles along the Maumee River in northwest Ohio, from Defiance to the Toledo suburb of Maumee. It begins at State Route 15 and River Drive on the river's north side in Defiance, then follows River Road eastward through Napoleon and Waterville. The byway ends at the site of the former British Fort Miamis in the town of Maumee, a fortification built in 1794 to support British-allied Native American resistance during the Northwest Indian War and now preserved as a city park. Between these points, the drive stays close to the river's floodplain, passing farmland, small river towns, and access points for canoeing and fishing along one of Ohio's larger interior rivers.
