Morgan County Scenic Byway, also known as the Appalachian Byway of Ohio, runs 105 miles along State Route 78 through the Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio. McConnelsville anchors the route with one of the state's most intact historic Main Streets, centered on the 1894 Twin City Opera House, and the surrounding county still calls itself the "Front Porch to the Great Outdoors." Five historic covered bridges cross the valleys and farmland along the way, and the Big Muskie Bucket at Jesse Owens State Park, a single dragline bucket the size of a small house, stands as a monument to the region's coal-mining past. The drive alternates steadily between wooded ridgelines, river bottoms, and small county-seat towns.
